Description
The literature has described that many medical treatment interventions have various effects on patients and their families. However, within the past ten years, it has been noted that treatment interventions of some diseases may also have effects that are financial in nature. The term ‘financial toxicity” refers to the high cost of care of many diseases and the financial burden and distress placed on patients and families because of the treatments and interventions related to those diseases. Coordinated efforts of patients, providers, and organizations as well as emerging research are needed to address this unique and specific problem.
