This activity was developed to address a significant but hidden effect of a predictable psychological phenomenon and how it relates to nursing work environments. Learner Objectives Identify the predictable, inevitable psychological effects of scarcity. Identify 2-3 key strategies for hedging the psychological effects of scarcity in the nursing work environment. Presenter Dr. Sarah Lackey has a broad pattern experience in clinical, staff development, and quality settings; she has published numerous peer reviewed articles; serves as an advocate for nursing on various boards and governing bodies; and works with leaders to evaluate and implement solutions. Her 40+ year career in nursing prepares her adequately for the task of deciphering the complex issue of nurse retention. Sarah obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at the University of Alabama; her Master’s degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham; her BSN from Northern Illinois University, and is also a certified professional coach.
