During this session, attendees will learn how one organization developed a 3-year nursing strategic plan focused on elevating nursing practice which yielded a 64-million-dollar impact. We will describe the systematic process utilized as well as the tools, frameworks, and theories leveraged to organize and execute a systemwide nursing strategy.

Penelope Gorsuch, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, EBP-C, FACHE
Dr. Penelope Gorsuch is the Sr VP/Chief Nurse Executive at Summa Health and Assistant Professor Clinical Practice at The Ohio State University. Previously, she was Assoc Director, Clinical Core at The Fuld Institute and prior to that she served as Associate Director Patient Care Services at Dayton VA Medical Center and prior to that, she served in the US Air Force for 28 years holding multiple leadership roles. She earned a BSN at Brenau Women’s College, MSN as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist at Univ of Nebraska Medical Center, and DNP at Touro Univ Nevada. Penny has numerous publications on creating a culture for and leading evidence-based practice in the healthcare setting.
Karrie Boss, DNP, RN, APRN, ACCNS-AG, CCRN, EBP-C
Dr. Karrie Boss is the System Director Evidence-Based Practice for Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. In her role she leads and develops the strategic and operational goals, objectives, and focus areas that contribute to Summa Health’s Center for Clinical Inquiry®. She is responsible for the development, implementation, and sustainment of infrastructural systems and processes related to supporting the clinical staffs’ ability to effectively provide coordinated, evidence-based care. Karrie is an Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist and has more than 20 years of experience and expertise in critical care/intensive care, trauma and emergency nursing, stroke, and evidence-based practice.
Sarah Gustafson, MEd, BSN, RN, EBP-C
Sarah Gustafson is an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Specialist for Summa Health in Akron, Ohio where she mentors and leads EBP methodology in The Center for Clinical Inquiry®. She is also responsible for the design of program systems and infrastructure that support the implementation and sustainment of best practices. With more than 14 years of nursing experience in clinical, administrative, and academic roles, Sarah has demonstrated a passion for quality. Her best practice knowledge extends from nursing to education with a Master of Education degree and double certifications in Instructional Design. She will soon graduate with a Doctor of Nursing Practice.
